squamous cell carcinoma involving base of tongue

I've been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the base of the tongue with some lymph node involvement. I'm self pay and the doctor said, "You might want to see a medical oncologist." The medical oncologist wanted $400-$500 for an office visit. I chose to cancel the appointment and opted for the radiation only of which I've now had two treatments. I know every case is different but has anyone else opted for radiation only and if so may I ask your thoughts on it? I'm feeling pressure from my sisters to also seek chemo and its easy to feel I am being reckless for not doing so. I don't want the chemo because I don't feel I can afford it and I don't want the added adverve reactions or side-effects of both radiation and chemo. Thanks, Lee
